Lakers Sign Chris Kaman

Posted: July 8, 2013 in Basketball

The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms with free agent center Chris Kaman on a one-year deal, according to sources with knowledge of the deal. Kaman’s deal is valued at the Lakers’ mini mid-level exception amount of just under $3.2 million, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com’s Ramona Shelburne. Sources told ESPN.com that the Lakers pressed hard to complete a deal with Kaman over the weekend to ensure they have a quality starting center in the wake of Dwight Howard‘s departure, without impacting their projected 2014 salary-cap space. Kaman, 31, struggled through an injury-plagued campaign with the Dallas Mavericks this past season, averaging 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 66 games.

Well, not a bad start to filling the big man void. A one year deal with Kaman is a solid acquisition. He’s been a starter his whole career so maybe he’ll be able to stay healthier in a backup role. He’s got a smooth mid-range jumper and a decent set of post moves that a certain somebody that was on the Lakers last year lacked. And legit 7-footers aren’t exactly at a premium in the NBA these days. Plus, it’ll bring a little spark back to the LA-Boston rivalry with him and Kelly Olynyk battling for the Ugliest White Boy title in the post.

VS.

It’s close but I’ll take Chris Kamanurmouth, FTW.
